Qalʻeh Geli Kaj site, located in 50 kilometers northeast of Qom, is considered one of the most important settlements of the historical periods in Qom region that despite its important in terms of architectural features, so far it has not been studied seriously and purposefully. Therefore, there are many ambiguities about the effective factors in formation, usage and dating. The present research has studied this castle using a free and documental survey in a descriptive- analytical- historical approach. According to the results, the communication factor and the location of Ghaleh Geli on the way of one of the branches of Silk Road (the road of Isfahan to Rey), is the main reason of this site formation. The primary core of the castle has been established, during the Parthian period, to provide the security of the roads and the caravans. By prospering the trade in Sassanid and Seljuq periods, this site was converted to a settled town where Qalʻeh Geli has formed its citadel.
