چکیده
قهستان منطقه‌ای است در جنوب شرقی خراسان، شامل شهرستان­های کاشمر، طبس، فردوس، بیرجند، قاین، تربت حیدریه، خواف، گناباد و تایباد که از جانب شمال به نیشابور و­ سبزوار، از غرب به بیابان مرکزی، از­ جنوب به سیستان و کرمان و از طرف شرق به دشت ناامید در افغانستان کنونی محدود است. آنچه این ناحیه را از سایر نقاط ایران جدا می‌کند، غیر از ویژگی­های جغرافیایی و اقلیمی، وجود تعداد زیادی قلعه است. در این مقاله از یک طرف، جهت شناخت پهنه فرهنگی قهستان و قلاع موجود در آن، با استفاده از متون، اوضاع سیاسی، اجتماعی، اقتصادی و جغرافیایی تاریخی آن مورد مطالعه قرار گرفته و از طرف دیگر، به منظور فهم حوزه کارکرد قلاع، به عنوان پایگاه‌های مهم نظامی، سیاسی، اقتصادی و اجتماعی به بررسی میدانی قلاع و تحلیل موقعیت قرارگیری و پراکنش آنها در ارتباط با محیط پیرامو­نشان پرداخته شده است.

چکیده English

Qoheston is a region in the southeastern Khorasan which includes Kashmar, Tabas, Ferdos, Birjand, Qaen, Torbate Haidarie, Khaf and Taibad cities. This region is surrounded by Sabzevar and Nishaboor from north, central desert from west, Sistan and Kerman from south and Naomid plains from east. In addition to the geographical and climatic characteristics of the region the abundance of historical castles characterizes it from the other parts of Iran. This paper aims at study political, social, economic and geographical history of the Qohestan in order to understand the Qohestan culture. Moreover, the functionality of the castles the as well as the position and distribution of the castles also were studied.
