چکیده
According to the classical texts, Dara is an important city of the early Parthian period, which is located on the eastern borders of the Parthian Empire. This region has been documented as Apavortene, Zapaortenon, Partauticena and Apauarcticena in the classical sources. In this research, an attempt is made to provide relative speculations regarding the location of Dara and Shahr-Tepe by evaluating archaeological data, classical and Islamic texts. In order to achieve the goals of this research with a descriptive-analytical approach, the library research method and archaeological data have been used. This research shows that the province of Apavortene is located in Eastern Iran, and it is likely that the Abivard of the Islamic period is a transformed form of this Parthian period province. On the other hand, a comparative study of Dara in classical texts with the present-day Shahr-Tepe in Dargaz shows that this area is consistent with Justin and Pliny’s description of the city of Dara. Shahr-Tepe is located on the other side of Hezar Masjed Mountains between Nisa and Abivard, the site only has one period, it is surrounded by Hezar Masjed Mountains, the abundance of rivers and springs in the area, the extent of meadows and forest remains in Tandooreh National Park and Tivan region;these factors are in confirmation with the general description of Apavortene and Dara in the classical sources. They also show that Shahr-Tepe with an area of about 70 hectares can represent the prominent city of the early Parthian period.
