The study of Sasanian monumental rock reliefs has a long tradition and these fascinating monuments have been subject of scrutiny from many different perspectives. Nevertheless, one major issue still remains relatively unattended: how did these reliefs appear to ancient viewers? This broad question can be considered from at least two different angles: firstly, the relationship between the reliefs and their built and natural environment and secondly the original appearance of the reliefs, which now appear as grey rocky surfaces to us, when they were created and during their time of splendor. While the issue of polychromy in the Achaemenid rock art and architecture has been subject of intensive studies, apart from few brief references, this subject has not attracted much attention among scholars of Sasanian art and archaeology. Were these monuments decorated with color in their original form? If so, what colors were most commonly used? Can we reconstruct the colorful appearance of these reliefs? While empirical evidence of coloring has not been thoroughly documented on Sasanian reliefs yet, examination of several literary evidence as well as application of polychromy in other forms of Sasanian art, such as wall paintings, textiles, mosaics and stucco decorations can provide valuable indirect data on the subject and elucidate the Sasanian palette. Based on a such variety of evidence, as well as the long tradition of polychromy in ancient Iran at least from the Neo-Elamite period up to the Qajar era, it seems fairly rational that Sasanian rock reliefs were indeed colorful images standing out against their rocky background. Considering the close relation between three domains of wall painting, stucco decorating and rock reliefs, colorful appearance of Sasanian rock reliefs can be reasonably reconstructed}, keywords = {Sasanian,Rock Reliefs,Bas Relief,Polychromy,Color}, title_fa = {نگاهی به مساله رنگ‌آمیزی و کاربرد رنگ در سنگ‌نگاره‌های ساسانی}, abstract_fa = {ساسانیان در دوران شاهنشاهی خود بیش از سی سنگ‌نگاره ایجاد کردند که بیشتر آنها در پارس، خاستگاه دینی و سیاسی ایشان قرار داشت. سنگ‌نگاره‌های ساسانی تاکنون از منظرهای گوناگونی چون شاخصه‌های فنی، نمادگرایی، معناشناسی، زیبایی‌شناسی، شخصت‌پردازی و اهمیت و مضمون تاریخی موضوع پژوهش‌های بی‌شماری بوده‌اند. در این میان آنچه تاکنون کمتر به آن توجه شده منظر این سنگ‌نگاره‌ها در زمان آفرینش و حیات اولیه‌ آنهاست. این سوال از دو وجه قابل بررسی است: یکی نسبت میان سنگ‌نگاره‌ها با محیط طبیعی و ساخته‌شده‌ پیرامون خود، و دیگری پرداخت و جلوه‌ نهایی این سنگ‌نگاره‌ها –که امروزه خاکستری رنگ و یکدستند. با اینکه در دهه‌های گذشته مساله رنگ‌آمیزی سنگ‌نگاره‌های هخامنشی دستمایه پژوهش‌های قابل‌توجهی بوده، مساله کاربرد رنگ و رنگ‌آمیزی در سنگ‌نگاره‌های ساسانی به جز اشاراتی کوتاه و پراکنده تاکنون چندان مورد توجه قرار نگرفته ‌است. آیا سنگ‌نگاره‌های ساسانی اساسا پرداختی رنگین داشتند؟ اگر چنین بوده، چه رنگ‌هایی بیشتر به کار می‌رفتند؟ می‌توان رنگ‌آمیزی این نگاره‌ها را بازسازی کرد؟ با توجه به اینکه شناسایی شواهد مادی رنگ بر سنگ‌نگاره‌های ساسانی در دست بررسی بوده و هنوز به نتایج قطعی نینجامیده، در این پژوهش تلاش می‌شود با بررسی شواهد کاربرد رنگ در سایر هنرهای دوره‌ ساسانی (موزائیک‌کاری، نقاشی‌های دیواری، گچبری و بافته‌ها) و نیز شواهد متنی مستقیم و غیرمستقیم برگرفته از منابع تاریخی، رنگ‌های غالب مورد استفاده در شمایل‌نگاری و هنر این دوران بازشناسی شده و در حد امکان پاسخی برای سوال‌های طرح شده ارائه شود. در نهایت بر اساس مجموعه شواهد و داده‌ها، چنین نتیجه گرفته می‌شود که سنگ‌نگاره‌های ساسانی در تداوم سنت رنگ‌آمیزی سنگ‌نگاره‌ها در ایران باستان، که سابقه آن دست کم به دوران عیلام نو می‌رسد و تا دوره قاجار نیز تداوم داشته، بی‌تردید پرداختی رنگین داشته‌اند و با توجه به نزدیکی بسیار میان سه عرصه نقاشی دیواری، گچبری و سنگ‌نگاره‌ها، می‌توان به یک بازسازی نسبی از چهره‌ رنگین نخستین آنها بر اساس شواهد مورد اشاره دست یافت.}, keywords_fa = {سنگ‌نگاره,نقش‌برجسته,ساسانی,رنگ,رنگ‌آمیزی}, url = {https://jarcs.ut.ac.ir/article_83443.html}, eprint = {https://jarcs.ut.ac.ir/article_83443_885b4edc83a6af526762c4f46fbb4e21.pdf} }
